UBC | Sauder School of Business Executive Education 2012 – 2017
Program Leader
Developed and managed all aspects of a portfolio including in-person, online and blended professional development programs for career professionals that aligned with the business goals of our unit. Researched and prepared the initial business case for new program proposals based on industry demand; assembled teams of internal and external advisors; managed the development projects through to completion; developed and implemented a marketing strategy to promote the program; prepared revenue projections and managed program expenses (50-250K per program); sourced and hired instructors; reviewed program evaluations; and made recommendations for future program viability. Mentored, motivated and coached direct and indirect reports and team members to succeed through ongoing positive and constructive feedback.
KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- Led the development and implementation of an innovative model of blended accelerated diploma program for the university which is expected to generate significant revenues and can be replicated in other subject areas
- Assembled advisory teams of industry leaders to provide guidance in the direction of two different program development cycles
- Consistently implemented new processes that increased organizational capacity

UBC | English Language Institute 2001 – 2012
Program Manager
Managed development and delivery of English language programs for international students. Responsible for: hiring instructors and head instructors; facilitating onboarding and training of new employees; completing performance evaluations and teaching observations; and coordinating and delivering ongoing professional development opportunities. Researched and proposed new initiatives and innovations as well as planned and prepared business cases for establishing new programs. Managed all print and digital marketing communications for the entire suite of programs. Established strong connections with overseas partners and agencies and represented the university at international education events.
KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- Led the successful development and implementation of a high-profile program sponsored by the Provost’s Office.
- Delivered several conference presentations internationally
- Was the key change manager for several institutional-wide transitions
- Successfully secured several international agreements to provide short term programs for both undergraduate and career professionals (Mexico, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Thailand)
Surrey School District 1999-2001
ESL Instructor and Vice Principal
Vice Principal – Analyzed student performance data to make program decisions; Evaluated and allocated teaching resources; participated in instructor transfer process and hiring; implemented problem-solving strategies in collaboration with teachers to deal with challenging students; wrote successful grant applications to secure additional funding; overcame obstacles such as people’s’ preconceptions to gain full trust of staff as a leader and administrator.
ESL teacher (grades K – 12) – Worked collaboratively with classroom teachers to assess learners needs and adapt materials to create valuable learning experiences; provided district in-service training to staff in the areas of ESL and technology; managed the administration of all ESL learners including preparing for the annual Ministry audit.
KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- Researched and secured additional grant of $25,000 to fund ESL and computer resources
- Developed a successful program to more effectively involve immigrant parents through encouragement of parent participation in the classroom
- Took the role of Vice Principal in a labour-charged environment and moved from a controversial young hire to a respected leader who was valued for ability to gain input from all stakeholders and sustain a positive school culture
